Botox in a nutshell
Botulinum Toxin injections are a convenient and reliable way to fight back against the natural side effects of ageing, such as wrinkles or laughter and frown lines in the face.
Botox is used for three main purposes; muscle spasm control, severe underarm sweating and Botox Cosmetic improvements. Here our main focus is on treating facial lines and wrinkles using Botox Cosmetic, which contains botulinum toxin type A (the active ingredient), human albumin (a protein found in the human blood plasma) and sodium chloride.
The product is often used for forehead lines, crow’s feet, marionette lines at the corners of the mouth and smokers lines around the lips.
Botox Cosmetic should not be confused with injectable fillers. Dermal fillers work differently, plumping up tissues so that lines and wrinkles diminish or disappear (Restylane, Radiesse and Juvederm are examples). During a consultation our specialist will fully assess you and your concerns to help you decide which treatments and product(s) will solve your particular concerns, although as a general rule, Botox is used mostly in the upper portion of the face, and fillers can be used in other areas.
